Header bidding

Header bidding lets a publisher offer each impression to several ad exchanges at once before calling its ad server.

Code in the page's header collects bids from multiple demand partners simultaneously, so the highest one wins instead of whichever exchange the ad server asked first.

It raised publishers' revenue and added a step of latency to pages, and it is part of why the industry moved to first-price auctions.
