Contextual advertising

Contextual advertising places ads by the content of the page, not by tracking the person viewing it.

An ad for a code editor appears on a programming article because of the article, not because of the reader's browsing history. No personal data is needed.

It works well for small sites with focused audiences and is unaffected by cookie restrictions.
